第87回：The Odd Fishman Out

The 6th Character Popularity Poll is a return to classic form with Zoro securing the number 2 spot! Now here’s something interesting, Oda-sensei deliberately depicted all characters in the Top 20 *besides* the Strawhats with the obvious exception of Luffy. Uh, folks, Jinbei was #6… and Oda-sensei *didn’t* draw him. You guys!!!

Reading through Volume 86’s SBS, one can find depictions of Big Mom throughout her lifetime and it turns out that her younger self isn’t too far off from how Sanji originally imagined her!

In the 57th Course I mentioned that Nami’s new tact seemed similar to Goku’s Power Pole and it was just meant to be a quirky off-hand comment but the possibility of a full-on Goku-Nami actually seems within the realm of possibility!

We have Zeus who’s essentially Nimbus and even though Nami can’t ride him right now -should things wrap up well with Big Mom- what if:

a. Mom breaks off a part of Zeus and commands him to let Nami ride him.
b. Mom creates a similar cloud for Nami using part of Nami’s soul.

Furthermore, in this chapter, we have Nami commanding a beam of power and light! Where have we seen that before, right?

Sun Wukong (the basis for Goku from ‘Journey to the West’) was a selfish and terrible force to be reckoned with who was feared as much as any natural disaster. Sounds like our Nami♥

Did you notice these horned background characters from when Brook and Pedro managed to enter Sweet City?

Several years ago I might have suggested that these characters could be the same ‘mysterious’ race as Moria but we’re living in a post-Dellinger world now! Just because people look human and have horns doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re a secret race anymore! Such characters might be carrying fishman, merman or even mink genes! Heck, that even goes for Moria himself!

Take a look at this this devilish-looking fish from Chapter 100’s colorspread.

It’s a dead-ringer for many of Moria’s features! Wonder if we’ll ever get to find out more about Moria’s roots!
