In celebration of the 200th 'Greg-sensei's SUPER ONE PIECE Course' columnist Greg Werner talks with five international ONE PIECE fans to explore how Eiichiro Oda's record-shattering series is enjoyed by different countries and cultures around the world!
WHAT?!! I’ve written 200 columns?! ALREADY?!!
(did anyone just get déjà vu?)
It’s been six years since the 100th column celebration and what a six years it has been! Our world has seen so many changes in the past six years but one thing for certain has remained constant. Week in and week out, Odacchi spends time thinking about the world of the Straw Hat Pirates and continues to share their adventures with us.
In those six years, ONE PIECE has continued to grow in popularity around the world and with the live-action adaptation and new avenues for the anime such as ONE PIECE FAN LETTER, we’ve been able to live, learn, cry, and laugh alongside Luffy and his crew in new and exciting ways.
Continuing the theme from the 100th column celebration, I was lucky enough to spend time talking with some very special ONE PIECE fans from around the world and hear them explain in their own words why ONE PIECE is so important to them. Do different cultures appreciate the series in unique and interesting ways or does ONE PIECE resonate with all of us on some unseen core value?
My deepest thanks to Odacchi for working so hard for fans around the world and even though we keep hearing about ‘final arc this’ or ‘final chapter that’, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll be doing this again for a 300th column someday!
Thank you & enjoy!
