第47回：Excuse Me, While I Lick This Guy

What’s with all the licking and biting of poor Luffy? An SBS from Volume 40 detailed the scents of the Straw Hats (Brook and Franky were added later) and since Luffy smells like ’meat’ it’s possible that Wanda is attracted to his scent.

Other minks seem to carry animal-specific quirks as well. Rody gets the urge to attack things that flap and BB is bananas for…bananas. But then what about Carrot?

I doubt it’s based on his scent since rabbits are herbivores and shouldn’t pursue a meaty smell. Maybe it’s because his rubbery body seems like a giant chew-toy which she subconsciously has an urge to bite in order to grind down her teeth, a common practice for rabbits since their teeth are constantly growing.

Check the liquor bottle Makino’s holding, it’s the same brand that Ace, Sabo and Luffy shared when they made their promise of brotherhood, ’Sanzoku Sakazuki’ or Mountain Bandit Sakazuki! Do you think Dadan and the bandits produce that sake for profit? They’ve got their own label and they *seem* to have good relations with the townsfolk which means they don’t regularly raid the village. How entrepreneurial of them!

In the last installment we considered the possibility that Merry might carry some mink blood in him, well, check this out, here’s a female background character that appears strikingly similar to Merry. Whaddya think? Do Merry’s ancestors hail from Zou?

Mach Vise is down for the count, KO’d by Hajrudin. Although his Devil Fruit was never revealed in the comic, his fruit was named in Volume 79’s SBS: The Ton Ton Fruit, a stronger relative of the Kilo Kilo Fruit which was consumed by Miss. Valentine.

Since both kilograms and tons are units of weight and theoretically Miss Valentine *should* be able to match any weight Mach Vise produces, I’m not sure it’s that simple. For example, if both Vise and Valentine were asked to produce 100 tons, Vise could do it with ease while it might take Valentine considerably longer *and* it might put too much strain on her body.

But seriously, what was up with Vise’s tail? Anyone going to SBS that to Oda? That and Senor Pink’s connection with cats. I MUST KNOW T^T

Some cute anime-original scenes like the stinger where Baby 5 gives an emphatic ’Yes!’ to (what she assumes) is Sai’s marriage proposal and then Lao G’s attack ’Seal of G’ didn’t just leave a G-mark on Chinjao’s body, but also on the wall of earth behind him!

But folks, Baby 5’s messed up past, can we talk about that for a second?

Geez. That’s, that’s some seriously deep-seated trauma right there which I’m fairly certain has only been exacerbated by years of following around an abusive megalomaniac. We’re never given an actual name for her but, is that because she never had one to begin with? Do you think it’s possible that she was simply the fifth baby born to that mother and as the family didn’t care about forming a bond with children, they literally called her, Baby 5? Excuse me, I…I think there’s something in my eye T^T
